Walking on Moonbeams

Gold

And I love her so.
I wouldn’t trade her for gold.
Walking on moonbeams
I was born with a silver spoon.

Hell I’m gonna be me.
Gonna be free.
Walking on moonbeams
And staring out to sea.

And if a door be closed
Then a row of homes start building
And tear your curtains down
For sunlight is like gold.

Hell you better be you
Do what you can do.
Walking on moonbeams
And staring out to sea.

Cause if your skin was soil
How long do you think before they’d start digging.
And if your life was gold
How long do you think you’d stay living.

And I love her so.
I wouldn’t trade her for gold.

I love the song “Gold” by the Irish band, Interference.  I first heard the song when I watched the movie/musical “Once” (rent it tonight!).  Here is a video of The Swell Season covering “Gold” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtXejKkFxrw&feature=related

There is a joy that is infectious in this song.  It screams love – a love so amazing – a love that can’t be taken away – a love that you wouldn’t trade anything in the world for – a love that elevates you into the sky and you find yourself walking on moonbeams.

Have you ever felt that kind of love?  God has.

You shall no more be termed Forsaken, and your land shall no more be termed Desolate; but you shall be called My Delight Is in Her, and your land Married; for the LORD delights in you, and your land shall be married. 5 For as a young man marries a young woman, so shall your builder marry you, and as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, so shall your God rejoice over you. (Isaiah 62:4-5 NRSV)

These two verses from Isaiah are one of a number of places in scripture where God delights over creation and God’s people – most of them are found in the Prophets (e.g. Zeph 3:17, Jer 32:41, Isa 65:19).  Each instance of God singing over the people occurs after God has performed some saving action despite the deservedness of the people.  God’s singing occurs after an outpouring of God’s grace.

That is exactly what Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection is – it’s an outpouring of God’s grace. God’s love for us is so deep, so amazing, that God would be nailed to the beams of a cross and walk through death’s valley for us – and in dying and rising, God tears the curtain down and sunlight pierces the darkness of the tomb which is now empty.

In Christ, God has made all things new.  No longer will we be called forsaken and desolate, but we are called My Delight Is in Her.  The cross and the empty tomb are the most beautiful outpouring of God’s grace, and in them we see God’s “walking on moonbeam” love for us.  God loves you with a love that can’t be taken away – a love that God wouldn’t trade for anything – a “walking on moonbeams” love.

Happy Easter!  He is Risen!  He loves you!  Can you hear him singing?
