You may remember that not too long ago we had a leaky roof, a treacherous basement floor, fragile stairways, unhealthy carpets, dingy walls, bumpy sidewalks, and darkened stained glass windows. We signed off on a deferred maintenance contract with Langer Construction on March 27, 2022. It started with something like this:

This agreement was made as of March 27, 2022, by and between Como Park Lutheran Church (1376 Hoyt Ave W, St. Paul, MN  55108), a nonprofit Minnesota corporation ("Owner"), and LANGER CONSTRUCTION COMPANY (54 Moreland Avenue East, West St. Paul, MN 55118), a Minnesota corporation ("Agent").

Whereas, the Owner and the Agent have entered into a Standard Form of Agreement between Owner and Contractor (AIA Document A101) of even date herewith (the "Labor Agreement") relating to the Como Park Lutheran Church, 1376 Hoyt Ave W, St. Paul, MN  55108 (the "Project").

And so it began… We tore out old carpets, spilt out library books all over the building, annoyed the neighbors, set up big pieces of machinery, deposited dust all over the place, removed the old hotel desk from the Narthex, set up temporary office spaces, accessed deep places in the building that have been untouched for decades, and leveraged every volunteer we could when needed.

Look around today, and you will see bright stained glass windows, no water stains on the walls and ceilings. We have a fresh water resource in the Narthex for great coffee. Clean and healthy carpets, and safe stairways and sidewalks bless our feet as we walk to worship and out into the world.

Thanks to everyone who volunteered, prayed, offered financial support, created designs, chose materials, walked around machinery, and kept showing up.
